Earn Your Private Pilot License

The Private Pilot License (PPL) is the most basic pilot certificate

issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It allows you

to fly single-engine airplanes for personal transportation and

recreation.

Minimum Requirements

To earn your PPL, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years old (training can start earlier!)

  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language

  • Hold a valid medical certificate from an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) or meet the BasicMed requirements

  • Complete at least 40 hours of flight training, including 20 hours of dual instruction and 20 hours of solo flight

  • Pass a written aeronautical knowledge test and a practical flight test

Our Training

We use a 1962 Beechcraft Musketeer for our private pilot training. This aircraft is known for its stability and spaciousness, making it an ideal platform for learning to fly.

Cost

The cost of earning your PPL varies depending on the number of flight hours you require. However, here is a general estimate of the costs involved:

  • Airplane rental: $165 per hour

  • Instructor fee: $60 per hour

Additional Costs

In addition to the above, there are some additional costs associated with earning your PPL, such as:

  • Headset: $100 to $1,000

  • Written materials: $200 to $400

  • Testing fees: $100 to $200

  • Checkride: approximately $1,000

Total Cost

The total cost of earning your PPL can range from $10,200 to $19,275, depending on the number of flight hours you require and the additional costs you incur.
